Each week (usually) we will write a memory verse on a fill-in-the-blank form. We use the NIV 2011 version. Other versions may be used, but I will not always have a fill-in-the-blank form available for the other version and then students will write it out completely. Students also have the option to say it before the due date.
On each test, one of the memory verses from the Bible Unit will also be included as part of the test as a way of reviewing and making the connection between the memory work and the lessons.
You can check out the "REMEMBER ME" app - many students have found this very helpful and my own children use this at home! It's not free, but probably worth the cost!
August 30, 2018 - 2 Timothy 3:14-17
"But as for you, continue in what you have learned and have become convinced of, because you know those from whom you learned it, and how from infancy you have known the Holy Scriptures, which are able to make you wise for salvation through faith in Christ Jesus. All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful for teaching, rebuking, correcting, and training in righteousness, so that the servant of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good work."

Books of the Bible Song
September 12, 2018 - 2 Peter 1:20-21
Above all, you must understand that no prophecy of
Scripture came about by the prophet’s own interpretation of things. For
prophecy never had its origin in the human will, but prophets, though human,
spoke from God as they were carried along by the Holy Spirit.
Psalm 89:1-4 - September 20, 2018
"I will sing of the Lord's
great love forever; with my mouth I will make your faithfulness known through
all generations. I will declare that your love stands firm forever, that
you have established your faithfulness in heaven itself. You said, 'I
have made a covenant with my chosen one, I have sworn to David my servant, I
will establish your line forever and make your throne firm through all
generations.'"
September 28 - Psalm 89:5-7 - September 27, 2018
"The heavens
praise your wonders, Lord, your faithfulness too, in the assembly of the holy
ones. For who in the skies above can compare with the Lord? Who is
like the Lord among the heavenly beings? In the council of the holy ones
God is greatly feared; he is more awesome than all who surround him."
October 4, 2018 - 1 Kings 17:14-16
"For this is what the Lord, the God of Israel, says:
'The jar of flour will not be used up and the jug of oil will not run dry until
the day the Lord sends rain on the land.'
She went away and did as Elijah had told her. So there was
food every day for Elijah and for the woman and her family. For the jar of
flour was not used up and the jug of oil did not run dry, in keeping with the
word of the Lord spoken by Elijah."
November 8 - Hosea 14:1-3
"Return,
Israel, to the Lord your God. Your sins have been your downfall!
Take words with you and return to the Lord. Say to him: 'Forgive
all our sins and receive us graciously, that we may offer the fruit of our
lips. Assyria cannot save us, we will not mount war-horses. We will
never again say 'Our gods' to what our own hands have made, for in you the
fatherless find compassion.'"
Amos 5:12-15 - due November 9
"For I know how many are your offenses and how great your sins.
There are those who oppress the innocent and take bribes and you deprive
the poor of justice in the courts. Therefore the prudent keep quiet in
such times, for the times are evil. Seek good, not evil, that you may
live. Then the Lord God Almighty will be with you just as you say he is.
Hate evil, love good; maintain justice in the courts. Perhaps the
Lord God Almighty will have mercy on the remnant of Joseph."
Psalm
135:13-18 - due Dec 6
Your name, Lord, endures forever, you're renown, Lord, through all
generations. For the Lord will
vindicate his people and have compassion on his servants.
The idols of the nations are silver and gold, made by human
hands. They have mouths, but cannot speak, eyes, but cannot see.
They have ears, but cannot hear, nor is there breath in their
mouths. Those who make them will be like them, and so will all who
trust in them.
Isaiah 9:2, 6-7 - Due Dec 13
The people walking
in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness a light has dawned. For to us a child is
born, to us a son is given, and the government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace. Of the greatness of his government and peace there will
be no end. He will reign on David’s throne and over his kingdom, establishing and upholding it with justice and righteousness from that time on and forever. The zeal of the Lord Almighty will accomplish this.
Isaiah 40:28-31 - Due January 17
"Do you not know? Have
you not heard? The Lord is the everlasting God, the Creator of the ends
of the earth. He will not grow tired or weary, and his understanding no
one can fathom. He gives strength to the weary and increases the power of
the weak. Even youths grow tired and weary, and young men stumble and
fall; but those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength. They will
soar on wings like eagles, they will run and not grow weary, they will walk and
not be faint."
Isaiah 55:1-4 - Due January 24
"Come, all you who are thirsty, come to the waters, and you who have no money, come, buy and eat! Come, buy wine and milk without money and without cost. Why spend money on what is not bread, and you labor on what does not satisfy? Listen, listen to me, and eat what is good, and you will delight in the richest of fare. Give ear and come to me, listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, mu faithful love promised to David. See, I have made him a witness to the peoples, a ruler and commander of the peoples."
Isaiah 55:5-9 - due January 25
"Surely you will summon nations you know not, and
nations you do not know will come running to you, because of the Lord your God,
the Holy One of Israel, for he has endowed you with splendor. Seek the Lord
while he may be found; call on him while he is near. Let the wicked
forsake their ways and the unrighteous their thoughts. Let them turn to
the Lord, and he will have mercy on them, and to our God, for he will freely
pardon. 'For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my
ways,' declares the Lord. 'As the heavens are higher than the earth, so
are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.'"
Jeremiah 1:4-8 - due Feb 8
The word of the Lord came to me, saying, “Before I formed you
in the womb I knew you, before you were born I set you apart; I appointed you
as a prophet to the nations.” “Alas, Sovereign Lord,” I said, “I do not
know how to speak; I am too young.” But the Lord said to me, “Do not say,
‘I am too young.’ You must go to everyone I send you to and say whatever I
command you. Do not be afraid of them, for I am with you and will rescue
you,’ declares the Lord.
Jeremiah
17:5-8 – due Feb 14
"This is what the Lord
says: 'Cursed is the one who trusts in man, who draws strength from mere flesh
and whose heart turns away from the Lord. The person will be like a bush
in the wastelands; they will not see prosperity when it comes. They will
dwell in the parched places of the desert, in a salt land where no one lives.
But blessed is the one who trusts in the Lord, whose confidence is in
him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its
roots by the streams. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are
always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to
bear fruit.'"
Jeremiah
31:31-34 - due Thursday, March 1
"'The days are coming,'
declares the Lord, 'when I will make a new covenant with the people of Israel
and with the people of Judah. It will not be like the covenant I made
with their ancestors when I took them by the hand to lead them out of Egypt,
because they broke my covenant, though I was a husband to them,' declares the
Lord. 'This is the covenant I will make with the people of Israel after
that time,' declares the Lord. 'I will put my law in their minds and
write it on their hearts. I will be their God and they will be my people.
No longer will they teach their neighbor, or say to one another, 'Know
the Lord,' because they will all know me, from the least of them to the
greatest,' declares the Lord. 'For I will forgive their wickedness and
will remember their sins no more.'"
Jeremiah
29:10-13 - due Thursday, March 15
This is what the Lord says,
”When seventy years are completed for Babylon, I will come to you and fulfill
my good promise to bring you back to this place. For I know the
plans I have for you,” declares the Lord, “plans to prosper you and not to harm
you, plans to give you hope and a future. Then you will call on me
and come and pray to me, and I will listen to you. You will seek me
and find me when you seek me with all your heart.”
Ezekiel
37:21-23 - due April 5
"....and say to them,
'This is what the sovereign Lord says: I will take the Israelites out of
nations where they have gone. I will gather them from all around and
bring them back into their own land. I will make them one nation in the
land, on the mountains of Israel. There will be one king over all of them
and they will never again be two nations or be divided into two kingdoms.
They will no longer defile themselves with their idols and vile images or
with any of their offenses, for I will save them from all their sinful
backsliding, and I will cleanse them. They will be my people, and I will
be their God.'"
Daniel
3:15b-18 - due April 12
"'But if you do not
worship it, you will be thrown immediately into a blazing furnace. Then
what god will be able to rescue you from my hand?' Shadrach, Meshach, and
Abednego replied to the king, 'King Nebuchadnezzar we do not need to defend
ourselves before you in this matter. If we are thrown into the blazing
furnace, the God we serve is able to deliver us from it, and he will deliver us
from Your Majesty's hand. But even if he does not, we want you to know,
Your Majesty, that we will not serve your gods or worship the image of gold you
have set up.'"
Esther
4:12-16 - due _________________________
"When Esther's words were reported to Mordecai, he sent back this answer:
'Do not think that because you are in the king's house you alone of all the
Jews will escape. For if you remain silent at this time, relief and
deliverance for the Jews will arise from another place, but you and your
father's family will perish. And who knows but that you have come to your
royal position for such a time as this?' Then Esther sent this reply to
Mordecai: 'Go, gather together all the Jews who are in Susa, and fast for me.
Do not eat or drink for three days, night or day. I and my
attendants will fast as you do. When this is done, I will go to the king,
even though it is against the law. And if I perish, I perish.'"
